In my last few months at university, I felt frozen under the pressure of that time crunch. College was speeding towards its end, but I wasn’t ready to stop learning. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to a supportive community and challenging work. By the final weeks of my final semester, I hadn’t quite found a “next” that made me excited to move forward. That is, until I found Meddeas. I was investigating every whisper of opportunity and LinkedIn connection I could when a serendipitous Google search led me to the program that met and exceeded my three criteria.

First reason:
I knew that no matter where I went, I would still be me. I would still crave a challenge, still be enchanted by the simple things, and still need the occasional reminder that I have what it takes. As I started the Meddeas application process, the hiring team’s questions, the online support groups, and the available resources proved that the program would not just provide a job, but it would position me for continued growth and success.
Second motive why I chose Meddeas:
The world is big and beautiful – and I wanted my first professional job to add to its beauty. I wanted to be placed alongside people who are passionate about their work, to exchange ideas with those enchanted by life, and to walk in the footsteps of people who love others well. Connecting Spanish students and culture to other cultures and experiences seemed like just the right first step toward that goal.

I knew that now is the time to try. Now is the time to travel, to meet new people, to grow my skills, and even to embrace failure. With the opportunity to live with a host family, to take a free TEFL certification course, and to work in an international classroom with experienced and passionate professionals, Meddeas checked all of the boxes.

Since getting accepted to the program, preparation for the upcoming school year has been a whirlwind. However, the Meddeas team and other language assistants have been communicative and encouraging every step of the way. While the demands of the transition remain, the countdown to “next” now brims with promise and excitement.
