For me, 2025 began with a lot of anxiety about the unknown. As I began my final semester of college, I worried about where I would be at this time next year. As someone who has never been quite sure of exactly what career path they wanted to follow, you can imagine how stressful this time was for me, as all around me, my friends began receiving job offers left and right.
Meddeas
It was three months later when I found Meddeas. Still unsure of my career path, but knowing I wanted to travel and teach, Meddeas appeared like a beacon of light. It offers the perfect opportunity for me to test the waters of teaching, while not committing to a lifelong career.
I had applied, interviewed, and a month later received a placement offer. Before I knew it, I was on my way to Spain!
While it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, my journey to becoming a Language Assistant has come with its challenges. It has been the people in my life, and the people I have met along the way, that have truly transformed this experience for me, making it one I will never forget.
My Family and Friends
Some of my biggest inspirations for finally taking the leap over to Spain have come from my family and friends back home. They have been some of my biggest supporters along the way. Encouraging me to take this leap of faith and cheering me on along the way from back home.

My Host Family
The very first people I met in Spain were my host family. They were warm and welcoming, very sweet, and eager to always talk to me and assist me with anything I might need. Despite the slight language barrier, they have never once been anything but kind and helpful to me. Even offered to drive me to my appointments for my Visa paperwork.
Getting to live with such a nice family and spend time with their children after school and during the weekends has been such a blessing. And I am lucky to know I have them on my side while I am far from home.
New Friends
One of the best parts about my journey to Spain is that I have been given the opportunity to make so many lasting friendships. Meddeas eases the daunting process of making friends by connecting all of the Language Assistants online. I am always eager to join new friends over a cup of coffee, to work on lesson planning, get a bite to eat, or explore the city. Three months in and I have already met friends I know that will last a lifetime.
My Tutor and Teachers
My tutor has been immensely helpful this year, assisting me with lesson planning, answering my questions, and providing me with resources to be a successful teacher. Additionally, the rest of the teachers at my school have only ever greeted me with kindness and enthusiasm, as they are eager to ask me about my experiences around Spain and about my home life and culture.
The Students
These unlikely companions have been some of my biggest supporters during my time in Spain. I have been lucky to work with an attentive and respectful group of students who are always eager to learn more about me, my culture, and my language.

My students suggest the best restaurants in town, the best places to visit, and they are always looking to connect and bond over American music or American films that they have seen. I am truly grateful for everyone I have met along the way.
